Role Summary / Purpose:

In this role as a Junior AI Backend Java Engineer, you will develop consistent backend code and apply modern software engineering best practices while actively optimizing workflows using AI tooling. You will leverage AI to accelerate software delivery stages, enhance testing, and increase operational efficiency across the SDLC while ensuring consistency, high code quality, and delivery transparency.

Key Responsibilities:

Backend Development: Build, maintain, and support clean, scalable backend services and APIs utilizing Java and modern backend frameworks.

Workflow Modernization with AI: Implement and optimize AI-powered coding tools, prompt workflows, and automation to accelerate SDLC stages (code generation, automated testing, documentation, and code reviews).

Software Engineering Standards: Apply clean code principles, SOLID design patterns, and unit/integration testing best practices to maintain high code quality.

API & Database Integration: Develop RESTful endpoints, consume web services, and interact with relational/NoSQL databases.

Agile Collaboration: Work collaboratively within cross-functional agile teams, participating in sprint rituals, story refinement, and code reviews.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement: Document technical processes and architecture; stay updated on market trends in AI and modern Java backend development.

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience).

Experience: 0 to 2 years of software engineering experience in Java backend development (internships and academic full-stack projects considered).

Location Requirement: Remote role based in Brazil.

Required Skills & Technical Competencies:

Core Backend Engineering: Foundational knowledge and practical experience with Java (Core Java, Object-Oriented Programming, data structures).

Frameworks & APIs: Familiarity with modern Java frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot, Spring MVC) and RESTful API principles.

AI-Assisted Development: Eagerness and practical familiarity using modern AI developer tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, Claude Code, or LLM-assisted workflows) to enhance programming velocity.

Databases & Persistence: Basic knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and SQL query writing.

Developer Tools & Version Control: Working knowledge of Git, GitHub/GitLab, Maven/Gradle, and standard development environments.

Testing & Quality Assurance: Understanding of automated testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito).

Preferred / Good to Have:

Basic understanding of microservices architecture and containerization (Docker).

Exposure to cloud computing environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

Prior experience with CI/CD deployment pipelines.
