Team & Role Summary:

As an SDE-I in the Amazon Pay Rewards team, you will design and develop high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems that power customer rewards, incentives, cashbacks, and engagement mechanisms across the Amazon ecosystem. You will collaborate with senior engineers and product leaders to take projects from ambiguous requirements to production-grade, fault-tolerant solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with experienced cross-disciplinary Amazonians to conceive, design, and bring innovative payment and rewards features to market.

Design and build scalable services and distributed components handling high-throughput transactional traffic.

Build distributed storage, index, and query systems that are fault-tolerant, secure, low-cost, and easy to maintain.

Develop and maintain automated unit, integration, and load tests to ensure system stability and high software quality.

Participate in design and code reviews, maintaining architectural standards and software development best practices.

Troubleshoot production issues, identify operational bottlenecks, and implement proactive system monitoring and alerting.

Work within an agile engineering cadence to deliver features iteratively.

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related quantitative technical field.

Experience: 0 to 24 months of relevant experience (fresh graduates and entry-level engineers are eligible).

Basic Qualifications:

Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, C++, Python, or C#.

Strong foundational knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals: object-oriented design (OOD), data structures, algorithm design, and complexity analysis (Big-O).

Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities with the ability to write clean, modular, and maintainable code.

Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications / Good to Have:

Previous technical internship experience in software engineering or distributed systems development.

Working knowledge of multi-tiered distributed systems, microservices, and relational/NoSQL databases.

Exposure to cloud computing platforms and services (specifically AWS: DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, Lambda, S3).

Understanding of optimization mathematics, caching mechanisms, or high-concurrency systems.

Ability to handle ambiguous technical requirements and think abstractly to formulate solutions.
