Role Summary / Purpose:

We are seeking a hands-on Voice AI Engineer to join our core engineering team. In this role, you will design, develop, and deploy real-time, conversational voice AI systems that enable natural and human-like interactions. You will shape our voice AI architecture, make key technical decisions, and build scalable solutions from scratch, influencing product development at the frontier of human-computer interaction.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and deploy real-time voice AI agents capable of natural, human-like conversations.

Build end-to-end voice pipelines involving Speech-to-Text (STT), Large Language Models (LLMs), and Text-to-Speech (TTS).

Integrate LLMs with voice interfaces to enable context-aware, multi-turn intelligent conversations.

Work with speech recognition and synthesis technologies to optimize response quality, latency, and accuracy.

Develop low-latency, real-time audio streaming systems using WebSockets and WebRTC for seamless voice interactions.

Build and manage conversational workflows, handle interruption management, voice activity detection (VAD), and context persistence.

Integrate third-party AI models, APIs, and voice infrastructure into the core product architecture.

Experiment with different AI models, prompts, and architectures to optimize system throughput, cost efficiency, and reliability.

Collaborate with the founding team to transition features from rapid prototypes into production-grade systems.

Monitor voice agent performance in production and troubleshoot speech recognition, LLM inference, and audio pipeline issues.

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, AI/ML, or related quantitative disciplines.

Experience: 2 to 6 years of relevant experience in conversational AI, speech technologies, or voice interface development.

Startup Fit: Comfortable operating in an early-stage startup environment, navigating technical ambiguity, and taking complete feature ownership.

Required Skills & Technical Competencies:

Programming Languages: Strong programming experience in Python with a solid grasp of asynchronous programming (asyncio) and event-driven architecture.

LLMs & AI Integration: Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, open-source models) and conversational context handling.

Voice Frameworks & Platforms: Familiarity with voice AI frameworks and platforms such as LiveKit, Pipecat, Vapi, or Retell AI.

Streaming Protocols: Strong knowledge of real-time communication protocols, including WebSockets and WebRTC.

APIs & Backend Systems: Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, webhooks, and backend integration layers.

Cloud & DevOps: Proficiency with Git, Docker containerization, and deployment on major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

Preferred / Good to Have:

Hands-on experience with speech recognition models such as OpenAI Whisper, Deepgram, or similar STT systems.

Familiarity with low-latency voice synthesis engines such as ElevenLabs, Cartesia, or PlayHT.

Understanding of Voice Activity Detection (VAD), interruption handling, and acoustic endpointing.

Practical knowledge of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector embeddings, and vector databases.

Experience implementing agentic workflows with function calling / tool calling integrations.

Prior track record of taking AI voice products from ideation to live commercial deployment.
